Albufeira: Places to Eat

So I recently got back from a trip to Albufeira down in the Algarve. It's somewhere that I've been before many times as a child with the family and this year my mum, brother and myself decided to venture back for a comfort holiday. Being that we have been so many times before we know where we like to eat so here are a few of our favourites:

Albufeira: Places to Eat

Big Shanghai, Chinese Restaurant
Rua Do Municipio, Albufeira

Big Shanghai is one of my highlights when we go to Albufeira. Now i'm not insulting Sue my local Chinese restaurant owner by saying this as she still has the best Chinese food I've ever tasted but the Big Shanghai are up there and it was practically attached to my hotel. Not only is the food great in this place but the service is great too and exceptionally quick and the food is reasonably priced. Due to it's popularity in the area I would advise going early as it can get really busy. If you like Chinese cuisine it's definitely worth a visit.

Albufeira: Places to Eat

El Rancho, Steakhouse
Avenida sa Carneiro (the strip), Albufeira

El Rancho is somewhere that we have eaten at before and always enjoyed. The food isn't exceptional but the service is quick and efficient and if you enjoy a sizzling stone steak like I do, you will enjoy eating here. Now I can't really recommend anything other than the steaks as I've never tried anything else. I'm a "stick to what you know is good" type of person and typically order the same thing off the menu in every restaurant I go to. The steaks can come with a variety of potato options and the choice of either vegetables or salad and for an extra charge there are a selection of sauces too.

Albufeira: Places to Eat

Clay Oven, Indian
Avenida Dos Descobrimentos, Albufeira

Now technically I didn't eat here during my visit as I'm not a fan of Indian cuisine as popcorn chicken from KFC pushes my taste buds to their spice limit and has me reaching for the milk carton. However, this place always had a queue outside of people waiting for tables and so many people who I spoke to recommended it, there is even an Indian next door which can't even tempt people from the queue. It's currently placed #23 on TripAdvisor and has a certificate of excellence. I also know my parents have eaten here and said it's delicious.

Albufeira: Places to Eat

The Cottage, British
Avenida sa Carneiro (the strip), Albufeira

If you feel a little homesick while away The Cottage on the strip can fix you up with some pub-grub style food including scampi, steak and ale pie. or even a Sunday roast (they also served a mid-week roast on Wednesday too). While the food isn't exactly Michelin star the staff are friendly and the outside eating area is set back off the strip to provide some escape from the busy road. Desserts on offer can be apple pie with custard, banoffee pie or chocolate pancakes. They also do a cracking English breakfast here too, with none of the sneaky substitutions you can sometimes find such as hot dog sausages instead of proper sausages. The portion sizes are huge so you won't be disappointed on value for money.

Albufeira: Places to Eat

Pozzetti Gelato, Ice Cream Parlour
Avenida dos descobrimentos, Albufeira

This ice cream shop is absolutely charming with a huge sign in the window that I 100% agree with that states "Ice Cream Makes You Happy". They have little hanging plant pots in the outdoor seating area with chairs up-cycled from old pallets. The shop only opened in June this year and they really know what they are doing with ice-cream. The flavours are amazing and in the intense Portuguese heat it really is a taste of heaven. The menu also offers crepes and waffles too although I stuck to the cold stuff. If you get the chance your taste buds need this experience.
