Things I've Learnt So Far This Year

2017: Things I've Learnt So Far This Year

Hello June!

I am completely baffled by how the hell it is June already. We are already half way through 2017 and I'm speculating here but I think if I blink it might just turn into Christmas. The first half of the year has had highs and lows like any other year, month, week or day but I thought I'd share some of the things that I've learnt so far for 2017.

Why You Should Stop Saying Sorry

Why You Should Stop Saying Sorry

Recently I was alerted to the fact that I say sorry when I really don't need to. Maybe it's because it's stereotypically British, or links to confidence, anxiety or even gender but I'm sure that I'm not the only one who could class themselves as an over-apologiser. The 'sorry' that I'm most guilty of at the moment is "Sorry, but can I ask a silly question". I ask this to my lecturers, work colleagues, ballet teacher but why am I saying sorry for asking a question that most definitely isn't silly because it's helping me learn.

The Importance of Your Vote #NotThe33

The Importance of Your Vote #NotThe33

Voting gives you the power to decide how the UK is run and maybe my opinion is a little controversial but I hate it when people complain about what is going on politically and party policies when they didn't go out and make their opinion heard when it came down to it. What upsets me even more than that is that my own age category at the last general election had the worst voting turnout when these decisions could impact their lives ahead.

Spring Clean Your Life

Spring Clean Your Life

Spring is well and truly upon us and summer is just round the corner. At this time of year I always get the urge to cleanse my closet, tidy up and catch up on things like admin. This year for me my spring clean is all the more important as by this time next year I hope to be in a home of my own with J. To make the move easier I'm attempting to cut back on the things I have but also to stop replacing them with new things when I see them. Not sure how this is going to go, for both me and J! Here are my top tips for spring cleaning your life:

A Lanzarote Photo Diary

A Lanzarote Photo Diary

A week ago I was enjoying the sunny climes of Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. The trip was booked by my lovely mother as a birthday present for me and it was just what I needed. After mountains of assignments and a new project at work a week's escape did my mind the world of good. We didn't do much adventuring on our stay but I thought I'd share some of my favourite photographs from the trip.

The IT Bag of the Summer

The IT Bag of the Summer; ft Shop Guided Tor Personalised Straw Palm Pom Pom Bag

I love a great handbag as much as the next girl and the straw/woven tote has taken the season by storm. A handbag, along with shoes, is an item that I will happily splash the cash on with it being an investment however a woven bag isn't what I'm going to use everyday for work, it a bag best suited to weekend adventures and holidays.

How to Pack Like a Pro

How to Pack for Your Holiday Like a Pro

So as this is going live on the blog I am currently at the airport waiting to jet off on my first, and probably, only foreign holiday of the year. If you're like me packing is the worst part about going away because it can be stressful. I used to wait until the absolute last minute to pack because I found it less stressful that way but after many trips with mis-matched outfits and additional expenses to purchase forgotten items I decided enough was enough and to get my packing shit together.

How to Prep for the Best Summer Skin Ever

How to Prep for the Best Summer Skin Ever

Summer is my favourite season and my skin and hair seem to favour it too. Winter only causes dryness, blemishes and blandness from the constant change in temperatures and mechanical systems to maintain comfortable temperatures.

Luxe Things I Want to Need

Luxe Things I Want to Need

Following on from my living at home in my twenties post, which can be found here, I thought I'd do a post (my 100th!) about some of the luxuries living at home is allowing me to afford that I always want to need in my life. Those things that are probably a little bit too expensive but make life that touch more comfortable. Maybe it's age that makes me appreciate these things and now being closer to thirty than twenty but these are my want to need items.

So it's been a little while since I shared a recipe with you all and being a lover of the Cadbury Creme Egg I thought I'd share this recipe with you before the season ended. This recipe is utterly indulgent just like my creme egg brownies, which you can find the recipe for here, and it tastes just as delicious. This will make a great easter dessert to share with friends and family, or all to yourself, and best of all there is no baking involved, just some chill time.

Defeating Stress

Defeating Stress, Beauty and the beast L'oreal Lipstick

Happy April. I cannot believe it is April already. All the magnolia and blossom is out and weather is amazing, although I am off to the Snowdome today for some now un-seasonal ice skating and tobogganing. April though is national stress awareness month and I thought I'd discuss about how stress affected me recently.

Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion Week Spring Summer 2017

So last night I went along to The Mall at Cribbs Causeway here in Bristol (now voted the best place to live in the UK may I add) for their Spring Summer 17 Bristol Fashion Week. Its an event that I attend every year, normally with my mum, as it always has something for both of us. The show I saw last night was the first of this season and I have to say I was really impressed.

Five things to Thank my Mum For

Five things to Thank my Mum For

Happy Mothers Day

So it's mothers day in the UK, a day where across the country children celebrate their lovely mums, children who can't be with their mums are thankful for the times they do have or have had, and expectant mothers to be coo over their adventure to come. I'm lucky enough to be able to say that my motherbear is one of my closest allies and constantly offers me unconditional love and support and shown me over the years unparalleled strength. As a family it's been turbulent but yet my beautiful mum has seen me through and educated me to always look for the stars in the times of darkness. With that in mind I wanted to share five things that I could never thank my mum enough for and I hope that one day if I do become a mother that I can pass on to my child(ren).

Blog Posts to Help You Improve Your Blog

Blog Posts to Improve Your Blog

I've been really putting some additional focus into my blog since the new year and I feel that from January to March it's grown so much more than I could ever have imagined. I'm already only around 100 away from my 2017 twitter and instagram goals and 30 away from my Bloglovin' goal and I gave myself the whole year. I feel like the quality of my photography and writing has improved and i'm just so darn proud. However, I didn't do this by myself. I was helped along the way by some lovely fellow bloggers, whether they know it or not, so in a slightly Bloglovin' style round-up I thought I'd share the blog posts which have helped me grow and develop as a blogger.

How to Live for the Now

How to Live for the Now

""What" and "If" are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life: What if? What if? What if?"

The quote above has long been a favourite of mine from Letters to Juliet as I feel it helped me have a mini revelation about dwelling on the past too much. Flip that thought upside down and sometimes I now feel that I can focus on the future too much. I'm an avid goal setter and organiser to help me achieve what I want but I seldom stop thinking ahead and embrace what's going on around me to live in the now but I've really been trying recently to do just that. I've been trying to stop worrying over deadlines every day and my ever expanding to-do list and embrace the moments and activities going on around me. Here are the things which have helped me to live in the now.

How to Live for the Now

Turn off your phone

I find that learning to unplug from social media and just live has been so rewarding. Rather than checking all those emails coming through or social media notifications i've stopped to surround myself with real physical life. Technology has well and truly taken over and i'm guilty of grabbing a bite to eat with friends but still constantly checking my phone, not only has this lack of manners become accepted by society, but it's become perfectly normal distracting us from the great company we have right at the table. I now don't feel lost if I don't have my phone with me, or if it's tucked away in my bag.

Let go of those grudges

Growing up I could hold a grudge like nobody I knew. I could recall dates and times of when something horrible was said to me and who said it. I could probably even tell you what shoes they were wearing. Maybe it was because I wasn't exactly popular in school but it made me stupidly bitter. Letting go of all those grudges has been such a weight off my shoulders. As I've grown up, I've realised that people come and go in your life and that it's natural for this to happen, I shouldn't be holding grudges against those who have. I still wish them the happiest of birthdays and say hello if I see them out and about and I feel so much better for it.

How to Live for the Now

Don't hold back

This is another thing that I'm still guilty of sometimes. Holding back and/or saying no when really I should be saying Hell Yes! You can't live in the now if you're too scared to embrace it with both arms. As I said, i'm still working on this one but since actively thinking about not holding back I've done some awesome things that I wouldn't have done before. Even if it is getting up on the nightclub dance floor stone-cold sober.

Surround yourself with positive people

As I mentioned above, people will come and go throughout your life and it's actually perfectly normal. As everyone grows and blooms, people can grow apart and it doesn't have to be a negative thing. Surrounding yourself with like-minded and positive people can do the world of good. There is nothing to hold you back from being present in your life than negativity or people who stop you from believing in yourself. If you surround yourself with limitations and limiting people, you will always be limited.

How to Live for the Now

Do you try to live in the now and embrace the present?

Designer Dupes You Need Right Now

Designer Dupes you Need Right Now

There is something so appealing to me about a designer shoe or bag, and while I've never managed to pluck up the courage to buy a pair of designer shoes, I have managed to obtain a few handbags by declaring them an investment. I still stand by that they are an investment as a bag is one size fits all and once you're an adult your feet tend to stay the same size. However, at the moment my priority is on buying a house so my designer desires can't be met and that's where these amazing dupes from the high street are coming into play until a money miracle happens and I win the lottery or something.

Bristol Brunch at Cox and Baloney #CoxAndBaloneyBreakfast

Brunch. One of the best creations known to man, a delightful hybrid of breakfast and lunch.

Now if you follow me on instagram you will probably know I had a brunch epiphany at the weekend courtesy of Cox and Baloney based here in Bristol. Normally I'm very much a creature of habit and stick to what I know when it comes to food due to my intolerances, nut and lactose, but the weekend had me venturing into the world or avocado, tofu and chilli and I can't wait to go back.

It's pancake day, and it's saving me from my post-birthday blues. Going back to work yesterday after being completely spoilt for my birthday was so hard. So to keep the celebratory spirit alive I thought I'd share my recipe for fluffy American-style pancakes. As I've just been diagnosed as lactose intolerant, to keep my nut allergy company, these pancakes can be made using lactofree milk and butter and turn out delicious too.

Elderflower Fizz Cocktail

Elderflower Fizz Cocktail Recipe

So on Saturday I am officially turning 26 and just like last year I'm really not sure how to feel about it. I'm closer to 30 than 20 and it just sounds so much older than I would like to be. Inside I'm still the 10 year old Disney loving princess wannabe I once was who had a diet consisting of as much sugar as possible when the real adults weren't looking. Sixteen years on and to be honest my diet is still high sugar but it now involves naughty adult treats such as alcohol so I thought as a pre-birthday treat I would share with you a recipe for one of my favourite cocktails and reap the benefits of drinking them all in the good name of the blog.

Multi-masking: Why You Should Be Doing It

Hello Lovelies, I hope you're all having a good weekend. This morning is the first time all week that I have been able to have a lie in and think about myself a little before I embark on a day full of assignment writing. Yesterday was my gran's 90th birthday party which I threw and after all this rushing about my skin has been a little neglected so I'm excited for a sunday morning pamper.

Learning to Love Yourself this Valentines

The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself

I'm the type of person that will give my all for the people I care about and put myself into second place. If you need a lift to the airport at 3am, I'm there. If you need a shoulder to cry on at the last minute, I'll be there. I guess with putting all the people and things I care most about in my life first I often forget about myself because I'm afraid of letting people down. As a child you are taught to be kind and help others without being taught how to love yourself but it's okay to be a little bit selfish sometimes.

The definition of 'self-love' is regard for one's own wellbeing and happiness with emphasis on the word own. It seems to be that self-love is something that everyone struggles with in one shape or another. I'm no different as I've definitely had my own battles, one of which I spoke about recently in my small boobs post, and I'm still guilty of not being able to accept a complement and not quite getting the work, life, study balance right. We are all striving for perfection without assessing how achievable it is, we are too hard on ourselves and social media, magazines and the media often hinder this rather than help. With valentines being less than a week away I think we should all be focussing on and celebrating loving ourselves for our own wellbeing and happiness.

Gym Motivation & My Workout Playlist

The gym is a place where, like many, I have a love-hate relationship. Once I'm there I enjoy the buzz of working out and feeling like I'm achieving something but finding the time to go and also jumping over the biggest hurdle for me that is actually going has meant that I just don't go enough. Last year I spent £19.98 per month to go about 12 times throughout the year - not very money savvy I know but I just couldn't bring myself to cancel because what if? What if I really fancy going? What if I really want to go swimming?

It's not exactly breaking news that more people in their twenties are still living at home thanks to a bit of a financial landslide. My love for Pinterest

Pinterest is fast becoming one of my favourite platforms and I've become serial pinner. It's probably because I'm a really visual person and Pinterest allows all the dreamy mood boards my heart, and eyes, could ever desire. I have boards for fashion, lifestyle, seasons, recipes and travel. I also use secret boards to help me plan events, such as my grandmothers 90th birthday party, and I have a secret wedding board which I may reveal one day if I ever get a ring on my finger.
