AW trends you can wear now

AW trends to wear now

This week I have noticed that the nights are drawing in earlier and it's made me realise that summer is soon to come to an end. The recent heat has lead me into a false sense of security about what season we are actually in and soon we will all be cuddling up in big jumpers with fluffy socks and hot chocolates. Fashion month has me thinking ahead at what I want in my wardrobe for the coming season I've also looked at the AW trends which I can start transitioning with now and below are my top picks:

Animal Print

Animal print, leopard especially, is something that I've loved since I was growing up and was a firm favourite when I went a little bit emo. My first ever purchase from Topshop was a pair of leopard print pumps which practically stayed glued to my feet until they were no longer resembling shoes. I love a chunky scarf when it starts to get chilly and the one below looks perfect to transition me into the new season. Layers are great for the season change as you can take them on and off while the weather makes it's mind up. Big cosy scarves also make great blankets to wrap around you for travelling too.

Embroidery

This is fast becoming my number one trend for Autumn Winter. It's feminine, flirty and can be casual or smart. I've seen it on denim, bomber jackets and my personal favourite take on embroidery is the bright florals on black with a stunning sheer fabric. This adaptability of the trend means that you can invest in pieces now which can be layered to go right through the season. Some of the embroidered skirts out there have really caught my fancy as they can be worn with bare legs now and thick chunky tights when the weather changes.

Velvet

There is something profoundly sexy about velvet as a material. It lures you in with it's soft touch and silky appeal and for the upcoming season it's a leading fabric. It's been lingering in the background for a few AW's but this is going to be it's year to shine. Most pieces that I've seen in the shops at the moment are accessories with some statement footwear which are great while the autumn showers are holding off. Deeper into winter I fear these might not be so practical which is all the more reason to get a pair now.

Bomber Jackets

I'm still a little on the fence about bomber jackets. I like them on other people but as soon as I try one on I feel like a puffy marshmallow and it doesn't quite seem to live up to my visions of looking like one of the pink ladies from Grease. They've been around over the spring summer and can be revamped for the new season with the jackets coming in embroidered, velvet and metallics. Psst...also Topshop have 30% off their fashion bomber jackets (at time of posting).

Metallics

Personally I think metallics are a great trend for AW as you can shine by reflecting the few light rays that actually get through the cloud and rain. Now i'm not sure I'm brave enough for head-to-toe robot-chic a la Ashish at London Fashion Week but a statement piece or accessories are much more in the comfort zone. I have seen loads of metallic pleated midi skirts out in the shops and on the streets recently, paired with either a cami and trainers for the warmer days and a jumper for the chillier ones. Metallics are also a great trend to bring into your make up bag with gorgeous bronze eye shadows to silver and copper nails.
